Suspect arrested in homicide at downtown apartment

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas police are investigating an overnight homicide in downtown Las Vegas. Detectives identified 36-year-old Derick McGruder as the suspect in this crime.

On November 17, 2021, at approximately 9:48 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to investigate a shooting that took place at a complex located in the 600 block of East Bonanza Road.

Arriving officers were directed to a unit where they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene, according to police.

The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicates that the victim had a dispute with a neighbor.

McGruder was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for murder.

The identification of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
