LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man was hit and killed after a car drove onto a sidewalk in the central Las Vegas valley, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The crash occurred around 3:37 p.m. near West Owens Avenue and B Street. Evidence at the scene and surveillance footage showed that a 1998 Lexus GS3000 was traveling east on Owens Avenue while two pedestrians were on the sidewalk.

This is the second time in a week that a car has struck pedestrians on a sidewalk in the valley.

According to police, the Lexus began to spin, hit the curb, and then drove onto the sidewalk striking both pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians, Damon Andrews, sustained serious injuries while the other, an unidentified male, sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both pedestrians were brought to University Medical Center where the unidentified male was pronounced dead.

According to police, there were three children, a 4-year-old, a 7-year-old, and an 11-year-old in the Lexus at the time of the crash.

This death marks the 2nd traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2023.
