Local police are searching for a driver who hit a man in front of the Boulevard Mall and left him for dead overnight.

Metro detectives said the man was hit at 10:57 p.m. at 5300 S. Maryland Parkway.  Witnesses told police the driver stopped briefly, but then left before calling for help.  The victim was taken to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

The victim was spotted darting in and out of traffic, according to Metro Sgt. Robert Stauffer.  Several motorists swerved to avoid the man and honked to get his attention.  Stauffer said the victim bent over in the street before he was struck.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver or white, newer four-door sedan, with tinted windows, and likely with front-end damage.  Detecives are reviewing surveillance video from businesses in the area.

Stauffer said the driver likely would not have faced charges associated with the crash had he or she not left the scene.
