HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) — A 12-year-old is dead and a 16-year-old is in the hospital after a triple homicide in Henderson Tuesday. The incident happened at an apartment complex near Stephanie Street and Wigwam Parkway.

Police responded to a call and found two women dead at the scene. A 16-year-old was hurt nearby.

A 38-year-old suspect was found armed inside a car, with a 12-year-old boy being held hostage. That suspect shot the boy, and police shot the suspect. Both died on scene.

Utah CBS affiliate KUTV identifies one of the women killed as Diana Hawatmeh and the 12-year-old as her son Joseph. Her teenage daughter, Yasmeen, is said to be in critical condition.

No officers were hurt.

Police believe the suspect lived in the apartment above those killed.

On Tuesday, police responded around 11 a.m. to The Douglas at Stonelake Apartments, where a witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing someone with a possible gunshot wound in a nearby doorway.

“Officers also located a possible suspect in a parked car that was nearby. Officers attempted contact with this individual, and this contact resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” said Henderson Police Capt. Jason Kuzik.

Police initially reported the incident as an officer-involved shooting.

“Right now, there are five people involved in this incident. Four of them are deceased, one of them being this possible suspect. One of them was transported to an area hospital. The condition of this person is unknown at this time.”

Kuzik said the names and identities of those involved have not been confirmed.

This is an ongoing investigation.
