LAS VEGAS (KLAS)– A plane crash during the Reno Air Races left one person dead, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The event began on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and was scheduled until Sunday, Sept. 18.

The crash occurred on the third lap of the Jet Gold Race. All other pilots landed safely, however, race operations for 2022 have been suspended, according to a statement released by the Reno Air Racing Association.

An investigation will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed no names will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
