For the second time in less than 24 hours, a pedestrian was hit and killed on I-15 in Clark County. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the most recent crash happened Thursday night near Sloan.
NHP Trooper Jason Buratczuk says a man was hit and killed by a semi-truck as he walked along the freeway just before 11 p.m. Trooper Buratczuk said the man had parked his Toyota car on the right shoulder of I-15 and began to walk northbound. At some point, he walked into the travel lane, where he was struck.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Thinking he had hit something, the driver of the semi stopped at a truck stop on Blue Diamond and Dean Martin, checked for damage, and called 911. Trooper Buratczuk said the truck driver showed no signs of impairment and cooperated with investigators. Troopers could not immediately say why the Toyota driver had parked his vehicle on the shoulder and why he was walking on the freeway.
This was the second fatal auto-pedestrian crash on I-15 on Thursday. Just after 1 a.m. a man was hit and killed as he ran across the freeway near the Desert Inn overpass. Investigators were not sure why the man darted into traffic in that case.
