Marcel and Patricia Chappuis, the owners of Northwest Academy, appeared in Las Vegas Justice Court Thursday morning on more than 40 counts of child abuse and neglect.

Bail was kept at $100,000 for Marcel Chappuis and $40,000 for his wife, Patricia. Later in the day, the couple were picked up by Nye County officials and transferred to the jail in that county.

Northwest Academy school is located in Nye County. The couple appeared in court in Las Vegas because they were arrested in Clark County.

The school plans to surrender its license once all the students are placed in other facilities.
