ONLY ON 8: Man carjacked, beaten opens up about frightening ordeal; possible suspects in custody

Local News

Police say four people are in custody in connection to the beating and carjacking of seniors citizens in the valley.

Investigators are looking into whether the incident was part of a larger crime spree. In the past two days, two carjackings and one attempted carjacking was reported to Metro Police.

A 78-year-old man was carjacked and beaten on the 2500 block of East Fremont near Eastern Avenue at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, 69-year-old Andras Gelencser said the same thing happened to him outside of his apartment about 10 miles away.

Police say Gelencser’ car was located on Mountain Sunset Avenue near Lone Mountain Road and Clayton Street.

“I never experienced this before, you know. It’s just, what’s going on? What’s going on,” Gelenscer asked?  “I realized when they took my car, that was the reason why they beat me up.”

Authorities say the people believed to be responsible for beating Gelenscer ran away when officers attempted to stop them.

“One of them came to me and punched me in the face several times,” Gelenscer said. “I was on the floor. While I was on the floor, they got into my car and drove away.”

Gelenscer has several bruises on his arm, cheek, and chin. He told police he was cleaning his car when it happened.

“I was not scared. I was just amazed at what was happening, you know,” Gelenscer expressed. “I’m not angry. They deserve to go to jail, but society has to change someway. So many criminals.”

The 78-year-old man who was attacked Tuesday night was about to eat dinner at El Ausente Restaurant when he was targeted.

“This man provided no resistance and yet the suspects savagely beat him, took his car keys, took his cell phone and even after they retrieved all that, went back and beat him some more,” said Captain Laz Chaz.

“Please don’t hurt me,” the victim whose identity was not released said!

Police believe it’s the same group who beat Gelencser.

“I am happy that everything is fine now,” Gelencser said. “Next time, I should be more vigilant, when I do something around my car. I should watch around me.”

Sources say two males and two females are in police custody. One person is still on the run.
