One dead, one burned in Downtown Las Vegas fire

Local News

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is reporting that one person was burned and another died in a fire around 3:23 a.m. at 721 N 1st Street, near Bonanza Road.

The fire occurred at a one story, sub-divided home with four separate apartments. According to investigators, the two victims were longtime friends (30+ years) and the blaze began when a sofa caught fire in the living room.

Responding crews forced entry into the apartment and found a male victim lying on the floor in a back bedroom – he was pronounced dead at the scene. The burned victim attempted to put out the couch fire, but was unsuccessful. They believe the victim in the back bedroom probably did not know about the fire.

LVFR says no smoke alarms were present in the apartment.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.
