LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed an 18-year-old pedestrian near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Monday night.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. at Las Vegas Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard.

The investigation shows that a 2019 Peterbilt tractor was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard, north of Hollywood Boulevard when a woman, who was walking in the same travel lane, crossed directly in front of the tractor trailer.

The 18-year-old woman, later identified as Dezaree Chanice Noreen Brown, was struck by the left front portion of the tractor. NHP says she was then redirected into the southbound travel lanes where a second unknown vehicle also struck her.

According to NHP, the pedestrian was outside of a marked crosswalk when she was hit.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. NHP says the driver of the tractor, who did not show any signs of impairment, stayed on scene and cooperated with police.

The second unknown vehicle left the scene without stopping, according to officials. This crash remains under investigation.

This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command’s 15th fatal crash, resulting in 16 fatalities for 2020.
