Homes, retail and industrial projects are just some of the new developments taking over west Henderson.
The newest addition to that area is a Costco, which opened Thursday morning near St. Rose and Maryland parkways. This is the second Costco to open in the city of Henderson. The new store added 250 new permanent jobs.
The city says there’s a higher demand for more retail and development as more homes are being built in the area. There are reportedly more than 55,000 homes within 10 minutes from the location.
The city of Henderson pulled some numbers for 8 News Now. They looked at permit dollar value and said that the overall construction valuation is up 12-percent when compared to this time in 2017.
Besides Costco’s new warehouse, just down the road, there’s a new 24-7 emergency room that tis set to open on Monday.
ER at Green Valley Ranch said they have space for even more development such as a potential future primary care facility.
The city of Henderson has issued 23 new commercial building permits all over the city for the first nine months of this year.
As far as single family residential permits go, they’ve issued almost 2,100 of those.
Henderson’s Director of Economic Development and Tourism Barbra Coffee explained Costco’s impact, and why businesses are choosing the St. Rose Parkway corridor.
“That brings in a huge retail anchor that will attract other retail around it,” Coffee said. “But then there’s also this incredible employee corridor for west Henderson near our executive airport that sits in west Henderson. It’s an anchor for really drawing what I call business recruitment, business attraction. Corporate entities like to locate near an executive airport.”
And of course, the Raiders are developing 55 acres of vacant land nearby. Their corporate headquarters and training facility by Henderson’s Executive Airport has an estimated completion date close to when the main stadium opens.
