LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Neighbors in a central valley neighborhood were shaken after a shooting left two people dead and another hurt Thursday afternoon.
“We hear the gunshots, and we think let’s just get down quickly,” Leonel Leduena said as he recalled hearing the scary situation go down.
The normally calm and quiet Silver Saddle Street, near Desert Inn Road and Eastern Avenue turned to complete chaos after an argument turned violent.
“Nothing like this has ever happened this close to me,” William Lidle said. “I’m not used to this.”
Police told 8 News Now a man and a woman were arguing in a car around 12:30 p.m., then two men standing outside a nearby home got involved in the dispute.
That’s when shots were fired, according to officers. The man and woman originally arguing in the car were reportedly both killed. Another man was also hurt but is expected to be okay, according to police.
Officers said the third man fired a gun, but he acted in self-defense.
“When my husband told me what happened I just couldn’t believe it,” Yunia Lopez said of what happened. “It’s more upsetting because I know everybody in the neighborhood.”
Now an area some people once called secluded, and quiet feels completely different, as those nearby deal with a shattered sense of safety.
“It was a quiet neighborhood until this morning,” Lidle added. “You just never know, you know?”
