The mugshot of the man accused of shooting and killing one of his roommates near E. Bonanza Road and N. Christy Lane was released Wednesday.
Metro Police said officers were called to the 5500 block of Sundance Avenue Tuesday night around 9:55 p.m. to investigate a report of a shooting.
The person who called 9-1-1 told emergency dispatchers that he and a woman inside the home had just been shot by their roommate.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect identified as 37-year-old Richard Kelly, came out and told officers that there were two people inside who were shot. Upon entry into the home, officers found a woman and a man on the back patio suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The two victims were transported to UMC Trauma where the woman was later pronounced deceased. The male victim was believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation by detectives with the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated Richard Kelly and the two victims all lived at the house. The three had been hanging out together when Kelly reportedly became irate, and a dispute occurred.
Kelly then went to his room, and the two victims went out to the patio, and according to Metro, for unknown reasons, Kelly came outside armed with a handgun and began to shoot the victims.
Kelly surrendered to police when they arrived. As a result of the investigation, Kelly was arrested and transported to the Clark County
Detention Center where he faces one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The identity of the female victim, as well as the cause and manner of her death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
