LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 24-year-old man was killed Wednesday night in a crash on Tropicana Avenue, east of Spencer Street, which caused that intersection to be closed for several hours.

According to Metro police, the motorcyclist collided with a Chevrolet van around 7:28 p.m. Police said the driver in the van was headed westbound on Tropicana and making a left turn into a private drive when the crash occurred. Police say the motorcyclist, who was riding a Harley Davidson was headed eastbound and “riding recklessly by splitting travel lanes and exceeding the speed limit.”

Police said when the van turned in front of the motorcycle, the motorcyclist applied his brakes and left about 250 feet of skid marks. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Clark County Coroner.

The 50-year-old driver of the van remained at the scene and didn’t show signs of impairment, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

This is the 147th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction since the beginning of 2021.
