UPDATE: Motorcyclist ID’d in crash near Las Vegas, Lake Mead boulevards

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a truck near Las Vegas and Lake Mead boulevards. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The motorcyclist was identified Wednesday as 38-year-old Matthew Steven Dovel. Authorities did not list his hometown.

Police say the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Las Vegas Boulevard North, approaching Lake Mead, when it failed to stop at a red light. The bike traveled through the intersection and collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling eastbound on Lake Mead.

The motorcyclist was reportedly thrown into the street and pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the truck remained and cooperated with authorities.

According to police, speed is believed to be a factor regarding the decedent, but impairment is unknown. Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors for the truck.

Dovel died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
