LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A moped rider was killed after he succumbed to injuries he received in a crash involving another driver on Wednesday, May 10 in the Historic Westside area.
On Wednesday, May 10, at approximately 4:18 p.m., officers responded to the crash at Washington Avenue and J Street.
A rider on a motorized scooter was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, riding on the sidewalk and switching to the travel lane when the sidewalk was obstructed.
A Nissan Versa was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue on the far left travel lane when the motorized scooter entered the roadway from the sidewalk due to obstructions and hit the right front bumper of the Nissan.
The motorized scooter driver was ejected and sustained critical injuries. He was taken to the University Medical Center.
On Wednesday, May 15, the scooter rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel at UMC.
The rider’s death marks the 48th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2023. This collision remains under investigation.
