MGM Resorts lays of 254 workers, more to come

LAS VEGAS — MGM Resorts International is starting it’s first round of layoffs Thursday. According to an internal document obtained by Vital Vegas, CEO Jim Murren announced that 254 workers are losing their jobs due to their positions being eliminated.

He also added that a final round of eliminations will happein in the coming weeks. The company recently announced their “MGM 2020” initiative which is meant to reduce costs and increase earnings by $200 million by the end of 2020.

Part of the plan includes centralizing jobs.

Several high-ranking executives have parted ways with the company as part of a voluntary resignation program.
