The burglary suspect involved in the latest police shooting was under surveillance and had recently removed his ankle monitoring bracelet.
Metro Police Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman discussed the shooting which happened on Saturday, Aug. 18 near Sahara Ave. and Durango Dr. It was the sixth officer-involved police shooting in the past month and the 16th for the year.
When the police detective approached him, burglary suspect, Jason Baker, 34, ran and fired one shot. The detective returned fire and Baker fired another round, Assistant Sheriff Zimmerman said. Neither man was hit.
Baker, who has an extensive criminal history, was taken into custody.
There is no police body camera video because Metro detectives are not required to wear body cameras, only the officers.
Baker is facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, resisting arreste with a firearm, prohibited person with a weapon and discharging a firearm where a person might be endangered.
