UPDATE: Suspect in custody with minor injuries following vehicle pursuit, several officer-involved shootings

Local News

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Henderson Police say their officers, Metro Police officers and the Nevada Highway Patrol were involved in a vehicle pursuit that led to several shootings throughout multiple jurisdictions Sunday morning.

Henderson Police gave preliminary details about the incident during a short briefing on Sunday around 11 a.m.

WATCH BRIEFING:

Around 5:15 a.m., Henderson Police received calls from a victim who said their vehicle had been hit by rounds fired from another vehicle in Henderson.

Shortly after, they received another report of a victim of a car jacking who had sustained multiple, serious injuries, police say. Officials say they are not certain what type of injuries the victim sustained, but they were transported to the hospital.

Police were given a detailed description of the suspect’s car.

When the first Henderson police officers arrived on scene, they encountered the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver, described by police as a black female adult, “pointed a firearm at the officer, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” police said during the briefing.

Then, a vehicle pursuit ensued onto westbound I-215. NHP assisted Henderson Police by deploying stop sticks. The suspect maneuvered around the stop sticks and went into the dirt shoulder to avoid them, NHP Trooper Smaka said during the briefing.

As the suspect approached another area with stop sticks on the I-215 westbound at Windmill, NHP said she fired rounds at the state trooper stationed there.

The NHP trooper “dove out of the way and returned fire.” The suspect vehicle then continued westbound on I-215.

The vehicle pursuit came to a stop at Tropicana and Decatur where an additional officer-involved shooting occurred. The briefing also took place here.

The female suspect sustained injuries to her hand, according to Henderson Police. Authorities say it is unclear if she was injured from the rounds being fired or from the “several rammings” that took place during the incident.

No officers were injured in any of the shootings.

“We’re very fortunate that it occurred in the early morning hours where there were not as many people active.” Henderson Police say. “We’re very fortunate that this incident came to a peaceful resolution.”

Henderson Police say this is a preliminary investigation and is continually evolving.

Police will release more information Monday morning.
