UPDATE: Police say son shot father in self-defense; charges unlikely

UPDATE: Metro police on Wednesday said a son shot his father in self-defense Tuesday night in a family disturbance. Police do not expect charges to be filed, but the case has been submitted to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. The shooting occurred on Spur Court, near Alta Drive and Cimarron Road. LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro Police are investigating a deadly shooting involving a father and son that happened is a northwest Las Vegas valley neighborhood.

Police responded to the shooting on Spur Court near Alta Drive and Cimarron Road around 10:30 p.m.

The father was shot and killed and the son surrendered to police. It is not clear, at this time, if he will face any charges.

According to homicide detectives, the father is accused of attacking his son in a domestic battery incident earlier in the evening. The son called police but the father left the home before officers arrived.

The father later returned to the home and that’s when the shooting happened.

“Officers arrived and the son surrendered to officers and the father was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this point, it’s still early on. We’re interviewing the people in the house to include the wife of the deceased and also the wife of the son,” Metro Lt. Ray Spencer said.

Police are sorting the details of what led up to the shooting.
