Metro locks down area around Flamingo and Decatur to investigate possible hazardous substance

Local News

Metro Police said the death of a man in an apartment complex near Flamingo and Decatur could have been caused by exposure to a hazardous material.

The man was found dead in his apartment located in the 5300 block of Retablo Avenue.  Initially, when officers responded to the call about the deceased man, they thought his death was due to a possible suicide, but after conferring with the Clark County Coroner it was determined that the individual may have been exposed to a hazardous material.

This prompted a secondary response by Metro’s ARMOR Unit to examine the apartment to determine if there was a hazardous substance present.

Right now, the area has been contained, and Metro Police say it doesn’t believe anyone in the surrounding area was exposed to anything hazardous.

However, as a precautionary measure for the public, Metro Police locked down the area around Flamingo, Decatur, and Lindell. Residents have also be sheltered in the complex.

No other information was released.
