LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man in critical condition Sunday night.
It happened at Siena Suites near Boulder Highway and Russell Road around 7:20 p.m.
According to police, they received a call from Siena Suites about an intoxicated tenant who was armed and causing a disturbance.
Shortly after the call, Metro’s air unit observed a man on the 3rd floor with what appeared to be a semi automatic firearm. Police then began setting up a perimeter around the complex.
Metro police say the man, who was on a balcony, pointed his weapon at police and officers fired rounds at him. The man was taken into custody and transported to a Sunrise Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
No officers were hurt in the officer-involved shooting. Police did not say if the man fired any shots.
8 News Now spoke with witnesses standing outside the Siena Suites apartments who say it was a chaotic scene.
“I was standing there and the cops, all of a sudden they were throwing flash bangs in the place and my natural instinct was to get down, so I just heard boom, boom, boom, boom, and then some gunshots,” said Devin Morgan, who lives at Siena Suites.
According to Metro, this is their 8th officer-involved shooting of 2020.
The name of the officer involved will be released 48 hours after the shooting.
