Police: 1 man dead, 1 wounded after shooting near Tropicana, Jones

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Wednesday night at an apartment complex near Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard. One man was killed and another was wounded.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 10 p.m. and when they arrived at the scene they found a man in his early 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man, who the Clark County Coroner’s office had identified as 23-year-old Lamont Brooks Jr., was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to Metro Lt. Ray Spencer, during the investigation, officers were advised that a man in his 30s arrived at Spring Valley Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Brooks, who was taken to Valley Hospital, was airlifted to UMC to undergo surgery.

The Clark County Coroner said Brooks died from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Metro, Brooks had gone to the apartment complex to do a drug transaction when two other men attempted to rob him. A fight broke out and one of the suspects fired his weapon several times hitting the victim and the other robbery suspect.

Jarreese Ford, 30, was injured and sought treatment at Spring Valley Hospital. He is currently at UMC in critical condition.
