UPDATE: Man arrested for allegedly killing his roommate at southeast valley apartment complex, victim identified

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One man is dead and his roommate is in police custody for allegedly stabbing him to death Monday night at a southeast valley apartment complex.

The victim has now been identified as 63-year-old Bobbie Ray Wingate, an African American male from Las Vegas. The cause of death was determined to be stab wounds to the chest and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Christian Yates, 30, called his mother and said he fought with his roommate and his roommate was dead, according to Metro Lt. Ray Spencer.

The homicide happened around 9:30 p.m. in the at an apartment complex on Mountain Vista Street, near E. Twain Avenue and Boulder Highway.

Lt. Spencer said when officers arrived at the scene, Yates was armed with a machete and refused to leave the apartment. Officers were able to talk him into cooperating and he was taken into custody.
