A man was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in central Las Vegas Monday, Metro Police said.
It happened at Kensington Suites located in the 2200 W. Bonanza near N. Tonopah Drive and W. Bonanza Road.
Metro Police first received the call about the man around 12:30 p.m. He was said to be suicidal.
When officers went to the man’s door, he was very agitated and started yelling at officers. At one point, it was apparent that the officer had something behind his back, so a taser was deployed. After the first taser deployment, the suspect became even more agitated and started swinging the knife violently at the officers.
One of the officers was cut by the knife. He was taken to University Medical Center. He’s in stable condition.
The taser was discharged again, after the suspect ignored verbal commands. The taser was once again in effective.
After the second taser strike, the man quickly turned toward officers again and lunged with the knife. That’s when the officer fired two rounds striking the suspect. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The area was closed to drivers for hours as Metro investigated.
This is the third officer-involved shooting by Metro Police within 48 hours.
