A Las Vegas man is facing a murder charge in the stabbing death of his mother last month.
Edward Brown, 47, was taken into custody on April 1 in the 5400 block of Boulder Highway by the Criminal Apprehension Team.
The homicide was discovered March 18 in the 1800 block of Jones Avenue after the woman’s daughter requested a welfare check after not hearing from her mother for three days.
Cheryl Jones, 68, was found in her closet. Her body had significant trauma to the neck and head area, and a bloody knife was found nearby, according to the arrest report for Brown.
The daughter told police when she last talked to her mother, she could hear Brown in the background. He often stayed with his mother, the report said. Brown would not return her calls after that day.
The report said Brown has an extensive criminal history including convictions and arrests for carjacking, burglary, evading police, drug charges and domestic battery violence. He currently had three outstanding arrest warrants.
According to the arrest report, there was evidence Brown was using his mother’s cell phone after her death.
