LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One man is in custody Saturday afternoon after sneaking onto McCarran International Airport grounds.

Metro Police say it appears the man, later identified as 41-year-old Alejandro Carlson, jumped a perimeter fence around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. He was spotted while walking on the wing of an Alaska Airlines flight headed to Portland, Oregon, the Associated Press reports.

The airline said in a statement that the flight was preparing for takeoff “when the pilot noticed an individual advancing toward the aircraft.” They said the pilot notified the tower.

LVMPD was able to take Carlson into custody after he fell off the wing. He was transported to UMC Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

LVMPD detectives say Carlson is homeless and suffers from mental illness.

“At no time were passengers onboard the plane in any danger,” LVMPD stated in a news release Monday. They added that this appears to have been an isolated incident.

He was booked in absentia for Disregard for Safety of Persons or Property and Trespassing.
