LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A driver is in police custody for suspected DUI Wednesday morning following a crash involving three vehicles which resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of U.S. 95 for nearly six hours.

During the closure, traffic was diverted off the northbound lanes at Jones Boulevard. The closure caused major traffic delays for morning commuters.

At least one driver is critically injured and was transported to University Medical Center, Nevada State Police Trooper Ashlee Wellman said.

Wellman said the crash was reported around 4:45 a.m. on U.S. 95 northbound at Rainbow Boulevard, or what is commonly called the Rainbow Curve.

Wellman said witnesses reported a man driving a Jeep in a reckless manner when he struck the rear of a silver Toyota which ended up on the Summerlin Parkway off-ramp. That driver did not report any injuries but the driver of the Jeep overcorrected and the Jeep overturned on U.S. 95 and was struck by a white Toyota. The man driving the white Toyota suffered critical injuries. There was also a dog in the vehicle who wasn’t injured.

Wellman said the driver of the Jeep showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
