LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — First Lady Dr. Jill Biden continued her visit to Las Vegas Thursday morning by visiting University Medical Center to thank nurses and hospital workers for their hard work.

It also happens to be National Nurses Day which is a day to show appreciation for nurses.

Nurses and employees said they appreciated that the first lady took time to recognize their hard work over the past year.

“I’ve been a nurse for 24 years. This week, this day means a lot to me but this year has been important. It’s been tough,” said Amy Runge, nurse manager. “It was exhausting, it was tiring, it was part of history.

Biden handed out White House shaped sugar cookies that were made at the White House.

“I don’t even know if I want to eat because it is so pretty, I may just freeze and save it,” Runge said.

Biden was joined by members of Nevada’s congressional delegation at the event.

Biden arrived in Las Vegas Wednesday.
