LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas police have arrested a registered sex offender following a sexual assault incident involving a 14-year-old boy.
Metro police said the incident began in the 4200 block of East Tonopah Avenue, near Lamb and Lake Mead. Officers responded to the area around 6:26 a.m. on Thursday.
According to the investigation the boy was approached by the suspect — now identified as 42-year-old Willie Collins — as he was walking to school.
The boy told police when Collins approached him he told him he was armed with a weapon and said he would kill him if he didn’t comply with his request.
Collins then directed the boy to get into a dumpster area in a back alley.
During the sexual assault, Collins and the boy were involved in a fight and the boy was then able to flee the area and find help nearby. Collins left the area before police were able to arrive.
Police said they located Collins six hours after the assault because he was wearing an ankle monitor. He was located at his residence and taken into custody, about a quarter-mile away from the scene.
Collins was taken to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces the following charges:
- Battery with intent to commit sexual assault
- Kidnapping
- Sexually Motivated
- 2 counts of sexual assualt with victim under 16
Police also determined at the time of the assault, Collins was on house arrest for burglary while in possession of a gun which was committed in November 2021 in North Las Vegas.
