LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – An RTC bus driver is facing a DUI charge after allegedly running a red light, hitting and killing a 33-year-old man on a bike in the east Las Vegas valley, according to police.

It happened shortly before 2:56 p.m. on Friday along East Tropicana Avenue and South Nellis Boulevard.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police later determined that the bus driver entered the intersection on a red traffic light and crashed into the left side of the man riding a bicycle.

Multiple passengers were on board the bus at the time, however, no injuries were reported, according to police.

The bus driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and traffic-related charges, according to police.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His death marks the 133rd traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2023. The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
