Las Vegas gears up to cheer on Golden Knights in NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

Local News

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) The Vegas Golden Knights are in San Jose to open the post-season against the sharks. It’s round one, game one Wednesday night.

Fans have been making their way to the arsenal for the latest game gear.

Commemorative 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs hats, shirts, you name it, are available. The Knights practiced Tuesday morning, one last time in Las Vegas before leaving for San Jose. Fans packed all areas around City National Arena to wish them luck in the playoffs.

If there is some bad blood between the two teams, it’s probably because the Knights punched the Sharks out of the playoffs last year. But it took six games during the second round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Knights will face them once again at 7:30 p.m. in California.

“Huge rivalry. Huge rivalry for us to come out of the gate first round it’s going to be an exciting match-up,” said Knights fan Paul Couch.

“I’m nervous, but I’m like really excited too. I think, I hope we’re going to do well. I have a good feeling  about it,” said Knights fan Kristen Gazmen.

“I even got a plaque in my living room says ‘Be aware, dog owner, dog is a Knight fan too,’ said Knights fan Walt Sanders.

The Knights are staying in San Jose for game 2, which is on Friday. Games 3 and 4 are in Las Vegas inside their fortress Sunday and Tuesday.

If game 5 is necessary, it returns back to San Jose on April 18.

Bars and restaurants are hosting watch parties all over the Las Vegas valley. The Downtown Las Vegas Event center is hosting one Wednesday night with free admission as well as the Henderson Pavilion.

8 News Now sports director Chris Maathuis is in San Jose and will provide live pre-game coverage at 5 and 6 p.m.
