LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One child was killed, and another was injured after police said a bullet from a neighboring apartment hit them.

It happened at 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Boulder Highway, near Harmon Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

Both children are described as being under the age of 10 years old, Metro police stated.

Police said before the shooting the children were inside their apartment with their parents and another sibling.

A gunshot then came through their apartment from a neighboring apartment and hit the two children.

Both children were taken to Sunrise Hospital, one of which later died, police stated during a news conference Tuesday night.

The second child was shot and injured in the leg but did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, police stated.

As of Tuesday evening, no suspects were taken into custody regarding the incident.
