The question is… What is James Holzhauer Day?

Jeopardy! champion, and Las Vegas resident, will receive a ceremonial key to the Las Vegas Strip Thursday afternoon at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. In a daily double, Clark County Commission Chair Marilyn Kirkpatrick will also declare today “James Holzhauer” Day throughout the county.

Holzhauer’s lightning fast thumb and encyclopedic recall of trivia has him blasting through the competition on the hit game show, Jeopardy! So far, Holzhauer has won more than $1.5-million dollars in 20 games. Those are both second only two all-time champ Ken Jennings, who won $2.5-million in 74-straight games in 2004.

Holzhauer, who is a professional sports gambler when he’s not cleaning up on game shows, holds several Jeopardy! records, including the five highest single-game totals in history.  His unique playing style – seeking out high-value clues first and going “all-in” on daily doubles – has made him a crowd favorite.

“Las Vegas residents like the rest of the nation have been glued to our televisions watching and rooting for James as he continues his winning streak on ‘Jeopardy!,’” Commissioner Kirkpatrick said. “It’s a pleasure to recognize his accomplishment on the show and to thank him for being a terrific ambassador for our community.”

Thursday’s ceremony is set for 1 p.m. at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

You can watch Holzhauer continue his historic streak every night at 7 p.m. on Channel 8.
