A former teacher at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts is facing a felony charge of a sex act with a student, according to Captain Roberto Morales, Clark County School District Police.
John Robert Morris, 56, was arrested Sunday, after a 9-month investigation, according to court records.
The former student, now attending college, told a college counselor in January that what happened with Morris occurred from March 2017 to May 2017. That counselor then reported it to CCSD Police. Morris was assigned to home duty by Clark County School District. He retired in May, Morales said.
CCSD Police requested a warrant on Aug. 31.
One LVA student told 8 News NOW that Morris had threatened him and he also saw inappropriate contact between Morris and other students.
Reporter Patrick Walker: “How many different occasions do you think that you saw that?”
Bryce Anderson, LVA Senior: “At least a dozen in the classroom, and then he’d also go in his office with students and lock the doors for minutes, or sometimes even an hour at a time.”
According to Morris’ biography on the Las Vegas Academy website, he taught with the school district for more than 25 years and was a founding member of LVA.
He is charged as an adult school employee engaging in a sex act with a student 16-17 years old.
Morris is currently not is custody. He posted bond, according to court documents.
