LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Clark County Coroner identified John Rappa, 37, as the man found dead in a house fire near Easter Avenue and Oakey Boulevard May 4. His cause and manner of death are unknown at this time.

Las Vegas firefighters battled the blaze on Howard Drive around 5 a.m.

Witnesses told crews the one-story home has been vacant but is known to be frequented by squatters. When crews extinguished the fire, they discovered Rappa dead inside a bedroom.

Firefighters had the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

The fire caused heavy damage to the structure, but the exact amount of damage is not yet available. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue says the house was previously damaged in another fire that occurred over a month ago on March 26, 2020.

There were no reported injuries of first responders during the incident.

Firefighters from the Clark County Fire Department also responded.
