Filmmakers of HBO documentary ‘Foster’ screens film in Las Vegas

Local News

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The team behind a new documentary hope their work can inspire change across the country.  “Foster” premiered on HBO last week, but on Tuesday it was screened locally in downtown Las Vegas.

The documentary is part of a 10-state tour with the filmmakers.  The film focuses on the foster care system in L.A. through the eyes of the children, parents, and the staff who experience it.

One local judge says his biggest takeaway from the documentary was how important it is to show the children’s commitment:

“These are incredible youth that are entitled to safety and well being and permanency,” said Frank Sullivan, 8th Judicial District Court. “If they can get that one person that can give them a foster home or a special advocate — they can make a life long change for these children. These are our future governors, future presidents, our teachers, so these are our leaders of the future. All they need is the community to step up and give them support; a loving commitment that these kids deserve.”
