Local News

LAS VEGAS (AP) — One man is dead and another is critically injured following a homicide that happened early Sunday morning.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say an altercation over parking at a liquor store led to a deadly punch in front of a convenience store located at Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.

They say two men pulled into the parking lot next to a woman who was in her car and taking up two parking spots around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Police say the driver of that car began arguing with the woman.

Shortly thereafter, two more men, identified as 33-year-old Jimmie Newson and 33-year-old Thirlon Newman, pulled into the parking lot and joined the argument.

Police say Newson and Newman each threw a punch at the two men from the first car. Both fell to the ground unconscious, police stated in a news release.

Both of the victims were transported to UMC Trauma where police say one man died and the other is in critical condition.

The suspects fled the scene.

On Monday, the two were taken into custody without incident.

They were transported to the Clark County Detention Center and booked for Open Murder
and Battery with Substantial Bodily Harm.
