UPDATE: Officials have released the identity of the man killed. Antraniq Tauanuu, 19, of Las Vegas, died in the Thursday crash, according to officials from the Clark County Coroner’s office. Tauanuu’s official cause of death has not yet been released.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A crash early Thursday claimed the life of a driver and left the passenger with minor injuries, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. and resulted in a several-hour closure of Durango Drive between Elkhorn and Oso Blanca roads. Police said the 19-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the Toyota Sequoia, hit a pole, and rolled several times. The driver died at the scene and a 21-year-old female passenger was transported to University Medical Center.

Metro said this is the 37th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2023.
