NORTH LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The family of a man murdered at his North Las Vegas home are speaking out.  Michael Jamerson was shot and killed Tuesday night in a neighborhood in the 4900 block of Harold Street near E. Lone Mountain and Losee roads.

The man’s 12-year-old son was inside the home at the time. Police said he heard the gunshot ring out. North Las Vegas Police said Jamerson’s body was found near a doorway of the garage.  Those closest to him say it was the laundry room. Now, Jamerson’s family, including his 12-year-old son are processing the sudden loss.

“He was an amazing father,” said Sarah, the mother to Jamerson’s son. “I mean he fed the homeless, he took our son to church every Sunday.

Sarah, the mother of Jamerson’s youngest son, spoke candidly about her relationship with the 48-year-old. She also addressed rumors swirling on the internet.

“Stop, ok,” Sarah sternly said! “I had nothing to do with it. His son certainly didn’t have anything to do with it. His family didn’t have anything to do with it. He was in the shower and went down and saw his father and ran back up and hid because he was scared.  He found his dad shot and killed.”

“It’s a shame that his son had to be there when that happened,” said Rhiannon Raasbeld, neighbor.

One of Jamerson’s neighbors said he saw him earlier that evening.

“I was going to the mail, and his garage door was open, and someone was fussing at him,” said George Blandford, neighbor. “But, you know, I didn’t pay much attention to it; you know kind of waved at the house, at the garage.”

Blandford and others say it’s a sad loss, but it’s not the first shooting that has occurred at Jamerson’s home.  According to neighbors 8 News NOW spoke with, they recall someone shooting Jamerson a few years ago, and that shooting happened in his garage as well.

“There was somebody there that was wanting to rob him or steal his car or something along that line, and I guess he didn’t give it to him, and they shot him and they shot him in the hand,” Blandford said.

Jamerson family says Jamerson put security cameras up soon after. Police are now looking at footage from the cameras to find his killer.

North Las Vegas Police say detectives are working leads in the recent case and hope to have an update by next week.
