Crash shuts down Lake Mead at Buffalo in both directions; motorcyclist seriously hurt

Metro Police investigated a serious crash Friday in the northwest part of the valley.  According to officers, around 1:43 p.m., emergency dispatch received a call about an accident involving a motorcycle and a car at N. Buffalo Drive and W. Lake Mead Boulevard.  

Police said the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Lake Mead when a car pulled out of the shopping center to make a u-turn and the two collided with each other. Police said the driver of the car stayed on scene and is cooperating with officers.

The driver of the car was not injured, but the rider of the motorcycle was seriously injured.

No word on what caused the wreck, but authorities say the motorcycle rider was transported to University Medical Center. His condition is said to be critical. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Both the driver of the car and the rider of the motorcycle are 18.

Lake Mead is expected to be shut down at Buffalo in both directions for the next two hours.
