Man arrested for DUI after crashing into police car, injuring officer

HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) — A 27-year-old man was arrested for DUI after Henderson Police say one of their officers was injured when his patrol car was hit as he was completing an accident report for a separate crash.

It happened near the intersection of Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Road around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police tell 8 News Now that the Henderson officer was finishing up an accident report near the intersection when the driver of a Hyundai drove around a disabled vehicle from the previous crash and slammed into the officer’s car.

The force of impact, police say, ejected the officer from his patrol vehicle. The officer was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly stable.

Joseph Allen Smith, 27, was arrested for DUI and other traffic-related offenses after exhibiting signs of impairment.

Green Valley Parkway was closed in both directions at Sunset Road for about 3.5 hours. Police say they are still investigating the crash.
