Police: Excessive speed factor in deadly Spring Valley crash

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in the Spring Valley area Thursday.

Police describe the deceased victim as a 78-year old driver from Las Vegas who had been driving a 2005 Toyota Rav4 at the time of the crash.

The other driver involved has been identified as 22-year-old Nickhari Howard of Las Vegas who was driving a 2004 Nissan at the time.

Howard was transported to University Medical Center and is suffering from minor injuries.

Police say a call came in at 10:49 a.m. of a two-vehicle accident on Flamingo and Lindell Road.

According to a witness and evidence at the scene, police say the video surveillance indicated that the Nissan was traveling east on West Flamingo approaching the Lindell intersection on a green traffic signal.

The Toyota was traveling west on West Flamingo approaching the intersection of Lindell and made a left turn across the Nissan’s path of travel when the crash occurred.

The driver in the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, sustaining critical injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was later transported to UMC where the driver was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

According to police impairment is not suspected, however, excessive speed appears to be a factor.

The driver’s death marks the 92nd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction.

This crash remains under investigation.
