The former director of business partnerships at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is facing a felony charge following an investigation into the misuse of Southwest Airline gift cards.

John “Brig” Lawson was arrested Wednesday and is facing a theft charge, according to court records.

Metro Police served a search warrant at the LVCVA offices Wednesday.

A 13-page audit, first released in April, showed that out of $90,000 in Southwest Airline gift cards, $50,000 was unaccounted for by the agency.

Almost $20,000 was used for personal travel and the other $20,000 for business. Former CEO Rossi Ralenkotter and his wife are responsible for more than $16,000 in family trips. He did later reimburse the LVCVA.

Lawson who resigned from the LVCVA last May was released on a $10,000 bond.

The LVCVA released a statement Wednesday saying they are cooperating with all police requests and look forward to a swift resolution.
