3 dogs die in Henderson; owners say they were poisoned

HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) — Nearly a month after someone poisoned multiple dogs in the west valley, three more animals have died after suspected poisoning in Henderson.

The family told 8 News Now they’re absolutely devastated after losing their four-legged friends so suddenly. They believe someone intentionally targeted their two backyards near Wagonwheel Drive and Boulder Highway.

They wanted to share their story to help others but chose to stay anonymous to protect the animals they currently have.

“I just can’t believe how people can be so cruel,” one of the dogs’ owners said Wednesday. “They were playful, happy, lovable. My kids played with them; they were just happy dogs.”

The family had to put their two dachshunds, Emmy and Max, down a few weeks ago after both were found seizing uncontrollably in the backyard.

“It’s just heartbreaking that my kids have to go through this,” the dogs’ owner added about the tragedy. “My nieces and nephews have to go through this.”

Just a week later, the family told 8 News Now they found their beautiful Bull Mastiff Fiona dead in another family member’s backyard.

“They are our family,” they said. “They are our pets; we love them.”

Toxicology reports showed Bromethalin in the animal’s stomachs, also known as rat poison. The family believes someone mixed the substance with kibble or treats to target them.

“If you are not an animal lover that’s fine,” the animals’ owner said. “But other people are, and there’s no reason to put them through the pain.”

They told 8 News Now they hope their effort to get the word out will stop those responsible from taking any other lives.

“Just stop,” owners said of the suspected poisoners. “I don’t know why you would want to hurt people like that.”
