LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two men are dead after going to a northeast valley apartment Friday morning and attempting to steal an AR-15 during a private party gun sale, according to police.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police received a call around 5:20 a.m. from a person in an apartment in the 5300 block of E. Craig Road near Las Vegas Boulevard, close to Nellis Air Force Base.

Metro Lt. Robert Price said the caller told police he had shot two men. When officers arrived at the scene, the two men were found on the floor of the apartment. One man was dead, and the other was transported to University Medical Center and pronounced dead a short while later.

Lt. Price said the two men went to the apartment to buy an AR-15 but decided to steal it and got into a struggle with the person selling the gun. That person shot both men and then notified the police.

Price said there is no threat to the public. He said the investigation is in its early stages and it is not known yet if the AR-15 was legally owned.
