LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by an impaired driver near a busy intersection in the southwest Las Vegas valley, police said.

It happened on Thursday, near the intersection of South Rainbow Boulevard and Windmill Lane south of Mesa Verde Lane shortly before 11 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian identified only as a 48-year-old man was in the northbound travel lanes on South Rainbow Boulevard South of Mesa Verde Lane for unknown reasons when the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet 1500 Trail Boss truck hit him.

The pedestrian died at the scene following the crash on Thursday night.

Police stated in a news release that the driver of the Chevrolet displayed signs of impairment and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

The crash remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.

No other details were released.
