Little League team raises money for World Series

Paseo Verde Little League is asking the public to help fund its trip to the Little League World Series.

The team is in the middle of one of its final practices before the West Region Tournament in San Bernardino, California.

The players joined their coaches and their families at Smashburger near Eastern Avenue and I-215 Monday morning.

For every person who mentioned the team while buying a hamburger, Smashburger donated $1 to Paseo Verde Little League.

Players also passed the batting helmet to collect cash.

The team is trying to raise $15,000 to $20,000 to help offset the expenses of the trip.

That means a lot of long days raising money, but they say it’s worth it.

“We need it, because we need to get there. We need to fundraise. We need the funds to do all the stuff that we want to do,” said outfielder Tanner McDougal. “If we win, we’ll have to fundraise again, because we’ll go to Williamsport.”

“It’s really cool, because knowing you’ve worked so hard doing all this, it’s finally paying off,” said catcher Matthew Galdi. “But it’s not done yet. We’ve still got more to go.”

The team hopes to reach the championship in Williamsport, Pennsylvania like the Mountain Ridge All Stars last year.

Paseo Verde has a few more days of practice before it begins its run.
