Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow announced his resignation Monday afternoon during a news conference at Las Vegas City Hall.
He said, the resignation would be effective at 5 p.m. Monday. This comes amid an FBI public corruption case. Barlow told reporters, he pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges.
“I am deeply ashamed of my conduct leading to my decision to plead guilty to convert campaign funds to my own personal use during my 2015 re-election campaign,” he said. “I accept full responsibility for my conduct.”
Barlow represented Ward 5 and had served on the council since 2007.
The city council has 30 days to decide how to fill Barlow’s seat. The council could appoint a replacement to fill out the remainder of the year-plus term or they could call for a special election.
