Jury finds man guilty of killing ex-girlfriend


A jury just found a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend guilty of murder and numerous other charges.

Brandon Hanson was arrested in August 2017 for killing Makalya Rhiner after she broke up with him. According to the arrest report, he said, he drove to her southwest valley apartment complex to discuss the status of their relationship.

When he tried talking to her in her garage, and she wasn’t interested, he got angry.  The 33-year-old met Rhiner, who was 21, at College of Southern Nevada. Police said, he also admitted to damaging cars belonging to Rhiner’s mother and new boyfriend.

On Friday, Hanson was found guilty on all counts of the following charges:

  • Murder with use of a deadly weapon
  • Burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon
  • Robbery with use of a deadly weapon
  • Break, injure or tamper with motor vehicle
  • Break, injure or tamper with motor vehicle

He’ll be sentenced Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.
